Ulead VideoStudio 7 is a powerful and flexible video editor suitable for both ambitious beginners and intermediate videographers. You need a pretty beefy system to make it work, though. That said, VideoStudio is head and shoulders above the rest in editing flexibility. It features two video and two audio tracks and allows overlays. It's the only program in our roundup that lets you move within a clip by punching in a time code. And it's the only program that plays back audio as you drag the cursor through the timeline. The 113 transitions, 35 effects, and 33 title styles are all highly configurable. VideoStudio's output options are terrific. The program can write DVDs, VCDs, and SVCDs with simple main and chapter menus. You can fool with frame rates and resolutions to your heart's content.
